What wonderful photographs! Your work is precious. As a RR switchman for 3 months as a kid, I really enjoyed you rail photos. The Croatian work really captures people. Best Wishes.

Am I ever glad I spent a long time on Jon Nelson's site because it led me to you. Joseph "George"..? You do not look like a George to me. Guess it was about 1969 when I lived at one end of Highland Park, your family at the other, that I started 'nesting' at your house. Lots of hours babysitting the rugrats, listening to your homemade music, watching you cut matt to frame your photos, the walk up the hill to your observatory. On my fridge I have a b/w photo you took of me when Jenny was teaching me how to crochet. Damn I was good looking then, or at least that's what your photography can do! Love to you Joe xxx Janice

Joe's photos are simply wonderful. This website allows people around the world to realize what Atikokan residents have known for decades - Joe is incredibly good at capturing the mood and spirit of places he loves.

This is like a trip home to my childhood. Thanks Joe. Not only a great teacher but a fabulous photographer! Memories are like photos and you took me there.

Joe has stopped time and stirs fond memories of the Atikokan and yard area, and even the trestle we would fish under for a walleye or walk across with my Dad on a quest for a supper partridge! Many lazy and simple days were spent around “Dedo’s house and on the railroad (even the odd uninvited trip for some teenagers to Fort Frances aboard a West bound freight). While looking at Joes’ photos you can hear Mr. Wiersema eerily playing the engines horn on the bend around Steep Rock Lake; he had it down to a science.

It's a breath of fresh air to see photos that are so honest and passionate. The photos make me feel as though I am right there.

Really enjoyed looking at all your Railway photographs. I know you are an international photographer, when might we see some of your European and Croatian work? Will check back again soon.

Stunning photographs! With absolute sincerity your work is a reminder of why I love black and white photography so much. These shots seem to capture both the romantic spirit of the railroad, and tranquility of a small northern town.

You truly have a gift, thank you for sharing!

Your photography is classy and stunning, and I'm not just saying this because you are my husband. It's about time that other people have access to your photographic body of work.

Fabulous site! What wonderful photos - I can see why they have sparked the imagination of other Canadians, and rekindled the spirits of those who have spent a lifetime on the railroad. These images are a gift for anyone who loves the rail. Finally; to have someone capture so perfectly the sublime images of steel and nature meeting and mixing which make up the hearts and memories of those who have experienced and love the "tracks"! Thank you Mr. Marohnic for these gorgeous moments in time.
